An effort has been made by civil society organizations (CSOs), media representatives, and attorneys to bring justice to the family of a patient who allegedly died as a result of medical staff incompetence at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
A mother of four named Sha’awa Abdulmumin reportedly passed away during childbirth due to claimed carelessness.

According to a source, Zainab, the sister of the deceased who traveled with her to the hospital, claimed that the infant had passed away before delivery but had not been removed from the hospital until two days later.
On September 5, 2022, the source stated that Sha’awa passed just a few hours after the deceased infant was finally evacuated.
According to the source, many people expressed concern for Sha’awa and her baby’s avoidable death.

In a meeting she called, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kano Branch Chairperson Bilkisu Ibrahim Suleiman stated that they would closely monitor the situation and work with the relevant authorities to bring it to a logical conclusion.
“We will make sure that justice is served and that it doesn’t happen again,” she continued. We are going to follow AB Mahmoud SAN as he is already there to guide us to the obvious conclusion.
The National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria’s Kano Coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, emphasized that the body was committed to upholding the principles outlined in their constitution and would make sure that human rights were respected.

He said the commission was deeply troubled by the development and promised they would do everything in their power to see that the right thing was done.
He explained that they would make sure to transmit all complaints to the proper body after conducting a number of investigations and consulting with all parties concerned.
