There was elation in Rivers State when the Legacy 600 aircraft that had been recovered by the Nyesom Wike-led administration finally landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
In celebration of the state-owned Legacy 600 Aircraft’s return, which the Governor said had been covertly abandoned in Germany by the previous administration, young people and women from Rivers flocked to the airport to enthrall bystanders with cultural acts.
According to Wike, who was on the ground to accept the Legacy 600 aircraft, the recovery and eventual return of the state’s lost asset is a fact and not just a matter of politics.

According to the governor, it required an intelligence report for his administration to learn about this asset, which belonged to the Rivers State government.
He said that the aircraft had been sent to distant Germany by the previous administration without providing any documentation to his administration.
To the glory of God, the plane has returned, as seen by the residents of Rivers and Nigeria, proving that we are not engaging in political games. All we’re saying is that until we received information indicating that we may have this asset somewhere, nobody informed us.

He recalled that the Legacy 600 Aircraft had been bought by the Dr. Peter Odili-led administration to serve the interests of the Rivers people, but had been abandoned by Chibuike Rotimi Ameachi’s administration since 2012 at the General Atomics Aerotec in Munich, Germany.
“What is very important to all of us here today is that when we took office in 2015, nobody turned over any reports or given us handover notes to let us know where such State assets were, only for us to hear in 2019 that these assets are somewhere,” he added.
Because air travel is a more technical endeavor, according to Wike, significant care was taken to prepare the Legacy 600 Aircraft to conduct air travel successfully.

The Governor said that the State government spent a lot of money on the aircraft, money that, if his administration had been aware of the early abandonment, would have been used for other development projects.
He claimed that after mending the aircraft, the Nigerian government granted a certificate of airworthiness allowing the aircraft to land back in Nigeria.
