The Yobe State administration has issued a warning to its information officers that it will no longer tolerate neglect of duty.

In a meeting with information managers, the government issued the warning through Kashim Tijjani Kalli, Permanent Secretary State of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Information, and Culture.

They were given the order by Kalli to recommit to their responsibilities of promoting government policies and initiatives for the advancement of the state.

“All information officers must cover and disseminate activities and programs of their agencies of assignment,” he said. “They are voices of government at the various MDAs.”

The permanent secretary claims that although the Mai Mala Buni administration is spending enormous sums of money on initiatives and programs, very few of them are being publicly disclosed.

“The management and reporting of information needs to be redirected in light of this intolerable scenario.

“The directorate is taking decisive measures geared toward improving the performance of the information officers,” he said, “to change the narrative of underreportage.”

The Permanent Secretary reassured IOs in the state that there will be refresher in-house and on-the-job training as well as better monitoring and assessment systems, all geared at attaining the intended goal, while encouraging the officers to step up and work optimally.
