According to the Federal Government, it will start cultivating wheat in the dry season on more than 70,000 hectares of land in November of this year.
For storage in the nation’s food reserves, the dry season wheat cropping would produce an anticipated yield of 875,000 metric tonnes.

At a briefing on Friday in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, revealed the information and stated that the future of agriculture in Nigeria is the main concern.
He said that the African Development Bank-funded National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro Pocket projects include wheat production.
He stated that “under this scheme, the target is to produce wheat on over 70, 000 hectares across the wheat production zone of the country, with an expected yield of 875,000 metric tonnes for our food reserves.”

Adding that there will be the provision of train-the-trainer for extension agents involved in dry season farming in collaboration with wheat producing states and other partners like flour mills, he pledged that the blending of appropriate fertilizers to support this year’s dry season farming while making provisions for next year’s farming season well in advance.
