The precise number of victims reported is yet unknown because the specifics are still hazy.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, Dr. Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), acknowledged the attack on the hamlet.

“A border community, a village called Ngurokayya in Kusur Damakarwa Ward in Geidam LGA, was attacked by suspected members of the NSAGs.”

Gumsa is roughly ten kilometers away from Gurokayya. People were reported to be fleeing the town to a safer area, and they set the town on fire. Lives were lost, with some people suffering serious injuries, he posted.

He claims that security services are well aware of the situation and that things are returning to normal.

“While assessment is ongoing across affected locations, the Yobe State Government’s delegation, SEMA, and LGA team are already mobilized to provide necessary first line support of food basket, NFIs, and some basic consumables as well as ensure women and children are safe and prioritized,” he continued.

He expressed his sympathies to the people of Ngurokayya, the Geidam LGA, and all the victims of the incident.

Some locals speculated that the attack might be retaliation for the 159 Battalion’s recent killing of two roving Boko Haram rebels in Geidam.
