Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa claims that the life of his late predecessor, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, demonstrates how bravery and selflessness can influence history.

This was said by Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday during the late governor’s lying-in-state and memorial service held at the Akure Township Stadium.

The governor stated that the impact of a man’s life on human civilization has always been the true measure of a life well spent.

He cited conflicts between farmers and herders as well as other security-related issues as examples of “where the man speaks truth to power” to support his claim that Akeredolu took a risk in the sake of his people.

He bravely made an extraordinary sacrifice that many would have thought to be a death mission. In an attempt to speak truth to power, he raised his voice to the ceiling.

He denounced double standards, complacency, division, and inequality. He demanded that the rule of law take precedence. He prayed for love, justice, and authentic nationalism.

He addressed the difficult problems of the day with the openness befitting a statesman. He suggested remedies that ensured peace in addition to denouncing thoughtlessness.

He not only spoke, but also lived what he preached.

“He pushed for fresh perspectives, fresh approaches, and fresh goals.

“He accepted these dangers in the face of stronger forces whose might is unchangeable and decisive. At the height of his campaign for reelection, he took a significant risk.

He remarked, “How can we overlook his unambiguous stance and viewpoint on the fundamentally constitutional issue of true federalism.”
