Members of the banking industry and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation and increase capacity in the fight against financial crimes.

The EFCC, the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), and the heads of the member banks got together to talk about how they might work together to combat financial and economic crimes.

The collaboration between CIBN, the Body of Banks’ CEOs, and the EFCC highlights the commitment to advancing ethics, professionalism, and openness within the banking sector, according to a statement given by Dr. Ken Opara, President of CIBN, during the meeting in Abuja.

He went on to say that the institute’s Annual Ethics Certification Programme is now essential for all bank employees as a means of establishing professionalism and ethics in the banking industry.

He asserts that the institute is collaborating with the CEOs of the Body of Banks to establish a program that would help the EFCC staff become more knowledgeable and skilled in banking and financial operations.

In addition to helping the anti-graft agency achieve its goals and promote economic growth, Opara said that the initiative will enable the EFCC to share information on how to limit financial crimes with bankers.

The battle against corruption is a patriotic task that should not be left solely to the commission, but should be a common duty of all, according to Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the EFCC.

He was also in favor of the commission and banks working together to train and educate commission employees and bankers alike.

Similarly, Mr. Lamin Manjang, chairman of the Body of Banks’ CEOs, praised Olukoyede’s leadership for the bank’s attempts to be professional while yet being compassionate.

The EFCC’s commitment to international conventions and protocols, he said, shows how far we’ve come in the fight against corruption. These treaties and protocols attempt to prevent corrupt activities through inclusive stakeholder involvement and effective regulations.

“The commission’s unwavering commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law in our society is reflected in this remarkable accomplishment,” Manjang told the press.
