American psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson has stated his interest in appearing in a film set in Nigeria.
He extended an invitation to Nollywood producers to cast him in their films.
But he did say that the film must be politically conscious.
“Nigeria, I’m waiting for an invitation,” Dr. Johnson remarked in a video that immediately went viral. The Nigerian film industry is my target. Some of the Nigerian films would be perfect for me to star in. Someone in Nigeria connected me with Black Nollywood.
Nollywood is my dream movie. However, any filmmaker out there has to be mindful. My actions do not constitute blaxploitation. The role I play must be self-centered. Who I am must serve my purpose. No matter what I am called, it must be progressive and pan-Africanist.
No way am I going to play a con artist on TV. I am not pretending to be a drug dealer, pimp, or criminal. Consistency is key. Being self-centered is essential.
