The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership has been forewarned by Jigawa State police that they will be held accountable for any disturbances during the upcoming statewide demonstration.

The threat was delivered by state police commissioner CP AT Abdullahi to the NLC leadership in advance of a peaceful protest that is scheduled to take place across the country on February 27 and 28, 2024.

The CP begged the NLC leaders to take into account the state’s interest and the tranquil environment that the populace enjoys.

Instead of being out on the streets, he advised them to gather in their secretariat, address the media, air their complaints, and then scatter to their several locations.

“You have the right to conduct peaceful protests as enshrined in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution,” he said.

“However, criminals will take advantage of this chance to seize control of the entire procedure and undermine the tranquil environment that the state enjoys.”

He said that in order to prevent any unpleasant incidents, the Command had set up a high-visibility police patrol across Dutse city, which included both public and private stores as well as government institutions.

He cautioned protestors to make sure that all processions adhered to the letter and spirit of the law.

According to him, the Command will not hesitate to apprehend any individual or organization that would be disguising themselves as protestors in order to subvert state law and order.
