The juju drama that erupted during the Super Falcons’ Monday night game versus Cameroon at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, according to midfielder Deborah Abiodun, was only an attempt by their opponent to divert attention.
The Super Falcons, according to Abiodun, are devout Christians.
Remember that following an electrifying match in Abuja, the Super Falcons crushed Cameroon’s Lionesses 1-0 in a pivotal second leg Women’s Olympic football qualifier.
A small drama broke out at the beginning of the second half.
This came after a player from Cameroon tried to plant something that looked like juju at the Super Falcons goal post.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Nigerian goalkeeper who had held the Cameroonians at bay in Douala and Abuja, was most likely the target of the move.
Nevertheless, Nnadozie stopped the Lionesses from surpassing her objective, therefore the attempt was stopped and perhaps the charm’s effectiveness was diminished.
Speaking about the event following the game, Abiodun said reporters at a press conference that the visitors’ move was a ploy to divert the Falcons’ attention.
“We managed to maintain our concentration on the game, despite their beliefs,” the 20-year-old remarked. “We kind of saw it as a point of distraction.”
