Rita Edochie, a veteran of the Nollywood industry, has spoken out against the persistent death rumors that have been circulating around her colleague Osita Iheme, better known by his stage name Pawpaw.

Two reports of Pawpaw’s death had lately surfaced, the actress said with a hint of sadness.

Surprisingly, she said, several followers bought the false story and expressed their grief in the comments.

A long Instagram post by Edochie voiced her displeasure with the constant coverage of celebrity deaths.

She brought attention to the fact that similar stories were falsely reported about her, mentioning that a picture of her on a film set was utilized to propagate the misinformation.

“This rumor has surfaced previously,” she wrote. For the second time in as many days, images of my great-uncle and longtime coworker, Osita Iheme, better known as Pawpaw, were widely shared online with the accompanying messages that they had passed away. Insane internet users started writing RIP comments to themselves after believing the false gist.

“Social media has done more harm than good to society,” I repeat again, echoing what I have previously said. Most young Nigerians have also benefited much from it, but the abuse is becoming unacceptable.
