Akeredolu the former governor arrives in Ondo to be buried

Prior to his burial and funeral ceremonies, Rotimi Akeredolu, the former governor of Ondo State, has had his remains brought to the state.

Akeredolu battled prostate cancer till passing away in Germany in December 2023.

In the state’s Owo Local Government Area headquarters, Akeredolu’s hometown of Owo, the Ajabue traditional rite marked the beginning of the late man’s burial rites on Wednesday.

The same day, Court 1 of the Ondo State High Court would host a Special Court Session in his honor.

The Akure Township Stadium will host a Commendation Service and Lying in State by 1:00 pm. Additionally, Saint Andrews Church in Owo will host an Evening of Tributes.

The burial program states that a Service of Songs will be held at St. Andrews Cathedral, Imola Street, Owo by 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 22 (a public holiday).

It will be time for the Wake-Keep at Maranatha Villa in Owo by 8:00 p.m.

The Kegites Club will host a World Gyration and Candlelight Procession from 8:00 p.m. until daybreak.

“Funeral service in St. Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo by 10 a.m. on Friday, February 23 (public holiday).

Following the burial service at the Owo burial site, which is only open to immediate relatives, there will be an instant burial followed by a reception at the Mydas Hotel and Resort on Ikare Road, Owo, by 1:00 pm.
