Army Chief praises soldiers for their tireless efforts in combating insecurity

The troops’ dedication and tireless efforts in addressing several security concerns have been praised by Major General Bamidele Alabi, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army.

General Alabi made the claim while speaking at the joint West African Social Activities for year 2023, which were arranged by Headquarters 22 Armoured Brigade, the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, and the Nigerian Army College of Education, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin on February 17, 2024, according to a statement released on Sunday by Captain Njoka Irabor, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army College of Education.

The GOC added that the WASA celebration is a long-standing custom and social event in the NA that provides a friendly environment for interaction between officers, soldiers, their families, and the general public.

As to his statement, “the exhibition of our abundant cultural legacy bears witness to the robust ties of unity, fraternity, and the unwavering spirit that characterizes the NA.” It’s a time to get together to celebrate our accomplishments and victories as well as to deepen our friendships and make new ones.

Major General Umar Babangida, the provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education, represented General Alabi at the event. General Alabi thanked Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the chief of army staff, for his exceptional leadership, particularly in providing funding for the WASA, demonstrating the significance placed on maintaining the NA’s culture and traditions.

The event’s highlights included a performance of national traditional dances, a tug-of-war between male and female Corps members, the awarding of deserving soldiers, the giving of mementos to invited guests, and the lighting of a bonfire.

Chiefs of Kwara State’s paramilitary and sister security organizations were present during the ceremony.

Among the dignitaries in attendance was His Royal Highness, Ohoro of Shao, Oba Dr. Job Obalowuatolagbe.
