Chelsea reignited their interest in the 22-year-old over the weekend, despite Benfica’s position, with west London club co-owner Todd Boehly personally participating in talks.
Chelsea have hinted that they are willing to spend more than £100 million to sign the midfielder before the January transfer window closes on Tuesday night.
