Chelsea eventually gives Enzo Fernandez a chance breaking the British transfer record

According to the Times, Chelsea have achieved a breakthrough in their pursuit of Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues are now likely to break the British transfer record for the World Cup winner from Argentina.

Chelsea were heavily linked with a deal for Fernandez at the start of the summer window, but talks fell through when Benfica refused to sell him.

Chelsea reignited their interest in the 22-year-old over the weekend, despite Benfica’s position, with west London club co-owner Todd Boehly personally participating in talks.

Chelsea have hinted that they are willing to spend more than £100 million to sign the midfielder before the January transfer window closes on Tuesday night.

Graham Potter’s side are eager to up their bid to roughly £115 million, which would set a British transfer record and look to have pressed Benfica’s hand.
