Chukwuemeka informs Chelsea coach Potter of his preferred position

Carney Chukwuemeka, a Chelsea midfielder, has told manager Graham Potter that his best position is in midfield.

Chukwuemeka, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022, spoke exclusively to Chelsea’s official website about his favoured position despite the Blues’ ability to play in several formations this season.

The Nigerian-born England junior team player says he feels most at ease as a left-sided midfielder.

“I’m probably most comfortable as a left 8 in a three,” Chukwuemeka said on Chelsea’s official website.

“However, further ahead, I can either drift off the line or stay out wide. It allows me to drive with the ball and receive it in pockets.

“Growing up in the academy at Villa, I did play in numerous places in the midfield and the attacking line. I was used to it, and I was used to learning new positions while playing for England at the young level.”

“I’ve had to adapt throughout my career,” he continued. It is always advantageous to be adaptable. You never know when you’ll be required to fill different roles.”
