Concerns expressed by Jigawa farmers regarding potential extortion attempts

Concerns have been made by the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Jigawa regarding allegations of fraudulent extortion from farmers throughout the state.

The AFAN state chairman, Auwal Garba Ibrahim, signed a press statement that sounded the alarm and promised to bring the perpetrators of the scam to justice.

According to him, the group found out how con artists posing as state officials steal money from farmers by claiming they need to register for a special Agricultural Intervention program.

Farmers should report the suspects to any security agency, Ibrahim advised, because the supposed registration was false and nonexistent.

As he pointed out, these con artists’ actions have the potential to sow distrust between farmers and their leaders, which in turn threatens the Jigawa and agricultural policies set by the federal government.

No organization or government agency in Nigeria, including the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Jigawa State, ever charges farmers for its services or assistance programs. We would like to make it crystal clear that this is not the case.

This action is illegal, inhumane, and unethical, and we oppose it with all our strength. The extortion syndicate is in no way affiliated with our association or a legitimate leader or agent.

“It is imperative that farmers and members of the public maintain a high level of vigilance and promptly notify local authorities and our office of any suspicious activity.”
