Olubunmi Adelugba, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, has committed the legislature’s support for the nomination and confirmation of qualified women to critical administrative positions in the state.
Adelugba declared this during the screening and confirmation of the state’s first female Auditor General for Local Governments, Iyadunni Victoria Oke, at a plenary held at the Assembly’s hallowed chambers in Ado Ekiti.

The nominee spoke about her experience and fitness for the job after being nominated by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Speaker, Odunayo Ogunmola.
The Speaker had previously read a letter from Governor Oyebanji presenting the nominee for screening and confirmation by the House in accordance with Section 126 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Oke was approved when the Speaker put her confirmation to a voice vote, with all MPs present voting “ayes” and no one disagreeing. The nominee was instructed to take a bow and exit.

The new Auditor General for Local Governments is from Usi Ekiti in Ekiti’s Ido/Osi Local Government Area and began the service as a Grade Level 04 officer, rising through the ranks to the pinnacle of her career.
During the confirmation process, the Speaker, Adelugba, stated that the legislature would always be ready to support the executive by carrying out its function of confirming the appointment of women of substance to high political and career offices in order for them to contribute to the development of the state.
The nomination of Oke for the job, according to the Speaker, fulfilled the Governor’s vow to hunt for the brightest brains of Ekiti origin anywhere in the world to help him run the business of governance and give the best to the people of the state.

Hon. Adelugba also hailed Oke as a moral woman, praising Governor Oyebanji for adding another feather to Ekiti women’s caps, as pledged during his campaign for the state’s highest office.
“I am really delighted that she (Dr. Oke) is a woman, and she is a lady of brilliance,” she remarked. You would agree with Governor Oyebanji that when he claimed that only the best would work with him, he meant it.
“We wish to thank our Governor for looking for another exceptional woman. We will always encourage the nomination and appointment of more qualified and experienced women to critical posts in government.
“I also want to say that this is an inspiration to the girl-child, an incentive to women that they can reach to the top in any area in which they find themselves. I’d want to thank her husband, Prof. Oke, for supporting her.”
Dr. Oke earlier promised lawmakers that he would protect the integrity of the office and promote quality service delivery to ensure a better Ekiti, particularly in the local government system.
She said she had learned the ropes on the job from no fewer than five Auditors General in the state and was always up to date on the task at hand.
“I promise to provide my best if given the chance to occupy this office. I received multiple praise letters while performing my tasks. In fact, I once audited the accounts of all 16 local governments, despite the fact that it was a difficult task.
