A real estate specialist, Kunle Ilori-Diamond, has proposed solutions to the problem after repeated instances of building collapse in Nigeria, which has worried the authorities.

According to a paper from the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, Lagos State topped the list of fatalities in Nigeria over the past ten years, with over 271 buildings collapsing, according to DAILY POST.

Ilori-Diamond urged the nation to stop using inferior products in the real estate industry in order to stop this avoidable loss of lives and property.

In an interview with furucinovel, the Dubai-based realtor asserted that a number of measures might be put in place to prevent building collapses and guarantee the stability and safety of buildings in the Nigerian real estate sector.

He claims that the Nigerian government may create strict building codes through its regulatory authorities, creating a thorough structure to prevent instances of building collapse.

He proposed setting up regulatory organizations in Lagos and other states to control the real estate industry.

He said that these organizations will keep an eye on construction operations, enforce building codes, carry out routine inspections to guarantee compliance, and have the power to fine or halt projects that don’t adhere to the necessary standards.

Ilori-Diamond urged all levels of government to “implement strong building rules and regulations to guarantee that construction projects adhere to specific requirements. These codes should include a variety of topics, such as material use, electrical systems, structural soundness, and fire safety. Inspections are conducted often throughout the construction phase, and compliance with these requirements is required.

So, for example, if I want to build a house or a building, I would need to submit my plans and designs to the authority overseeing real estate first. After it has been approved, the first phase of the construction should be finished, at which point I will need to ask for permission to move forward. Before the finishing touches are added, we should take an approval to make sure it is of a caliber suitable for habitation when we reach the final stage.

“After construction is complete, structures should be required to undergo regular inspections and continuous upkeep.

The government should concentrate on educating real estate industry players and increasing public knowledge of safety precautions. This entails pushing safety campaigns, disseminating details about building standards and best practices, and urging developers, contractors, and engineers to keep abreast of the most recent techniques, according to him.
