Flying Eagles head coach, Ladan Bosso said he has a stronger team than the squad that took part in the WAFU B U-20 championship in Niger Republic last year.
The WAFU championship served as the qualifying tournament for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
Bosso’s side won the tournament edging out neighbours Benin Republic 3-0 in the final.
Only 11 players from the team were included in the 25-man provisional squad released by the tactician on Thursday.
The likes of Nathaniel Nwosu, Augustine Njoku, Daniel Daga and Ahmed Abdullahi are among the old players in the team.
“This is a better team than the one from the qualifying tournament,” Bosso declared in a chat with SCORENigeria.
He said: “One of our best players in Niger was Ibrahim Mohammed ‘Ibeji’, but he has not been at his best and such is the depth in the talent of the current team that I could drop him without losing much sleep.
“Or take the case of Lawal Samson, who featured regularly in Niger, but now has to fight for a first-team place.”
The Flying Eagles will be looking to win an eighth African title in Egypt when they open their campaign against Senegal on February 19.
