Gareth Southgate will find it challenging to choose Eriksson’s two EPL players

Sven-Goran Eriksson, a former England manager, thinks it would be challenging for Gareth Southgate to allow Manchester United players Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw to play for the nation’s national side.

In Southgate’s side, Maguire and Shaw are regulars who excelled together at Euro 2020, becoming two of the top players in the competition.

However, the defenders’ form has dipped since England’s final loss to Italy.

Maguire and Shaw have recently fallen out of favor with Erik ten Hag and Man United.

Nevertheless, Southgate chose to recall both players for England’s forthcoming Nations League matches against Germany and Italy.

Eriksson admitted to BoyleSports, “That is a tough one.

“I believe it will be challenging for Southgate to select Maguire and Shaw because if they don’t play consistently, it will be very challenging to allow them to play for the national team because it is one thing to train but quite another to have a regular schedule of games,” said the football manager.

Rashford should be in the team, in my opinion, given Sancho and Rashford’s absences, he continued.

“I believe he [Southgate] chose 28 players. That is a lot; I doubt he can fit it all in before the World Cup, but it does indicate his desire to watch as many players as he can.

He also wants to see their progress during training and work with them. Therefore, I suppose it’s normal, but I believe some of the players that were passed over still have a chance to be selected when he makes the World Cup roster.
