Hardship: Ohanaeze praises soldiers but says we won’t allow a coup against Tinubu

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest Igbo sociocultural group, pledged on Tuesday to oppose any coup d’état in Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu was reassured of Ohanaeze’s support by its factional secretary-general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who emphasized the organization’s everlasting faith in both his administration and democracy.

This is happening against the backdrop of a rumored coup attempt against Tinubu’s government brought on by the current economic crisis.

The Nigerian military, however, emphasized that they supported Tinubu and democracy and ruled out the prospect of such a coup in Nigeria.

Isiguzoro did, however, stress how important political stability is in Nigeria.

“We pledge steadfast allegiance to the democratically elected Federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership,” Isiguzoro stated in a statement he signed. Ndigbo, in spite of efforts to incite Igbo rallies against Tinubu, has demonstrated unshakeable support in his administration.

This statement acts as a strong denunciation of coup rumors as well as a severe warning to those who sow division, strife, and chaos—elements that encourage adversity and economic sabotage.

Ndigbo, who are renowned for their tenacity and independence, have a vital stake in seeing Tinubu succeed. During previous times of political unrest, Ndigbo were unfairly singled out, with disastrous results.

“Any disruption in governance is likely to worsen the already dire situation facing the people of Nigeria by bringing in an era of anarchy and chaos.”

In addition to thanking the armed forces for their loyalty, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze acknowledged their commitment to preserving peace and defending Nigeria’s integrity from dangers including as terrorism and insurgency.

He went on, “We applaud their unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu and their rejection of coup speculations.”
