He’s conceited about team selection – Darren Bent slams Arsenal manager Arteta

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Darren Bent has slammed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, accusing him of being ‘arrogant’ in his team selections.

Due to the injury worries surrounding the two forwards, Bent believes Arteta made a mistake in selecting both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for Arsenal’s recent Premier League 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

“There have been times where I think [Mikel] Arteta has been a little bit arrogant in the way he’s picked his teams,” Bent told Premier League Productions.

“I mean, I didn’t think Martinelli looked particularly fit [against Chelsea], I didn’t think Saka looked fit, and I’m not sure if they are still carrying knocks, but they just didn’t look like they had the same pop when they get the ball.”

“However, in midfield, when you look at the Thomas Partey situation, he was brilliant last season, had injuries towards the end and wasn’t the same after that, but it’s almost as if you want to see Rice, Partey, and Odegaard.”

“We saw it towards the end of the game against Manchester City, and they controlled the game, and it looked a lot calmer.” But if Mikel Arteta doesn’t want to play those three for whatever reason, that’s fine.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal defeated Sevilla 2-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
