Sen. Athan Achonu, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of Imo State in the upcoming November 11 governorship election, has denounced the thugs who allegedly led by state government agents and Imo State Police Command operatives brutalized Comrade Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and arrested him.
The opposition party reacted angrily to the news and demanded that President Bola Tinubu investigate the situation in Imo State.

Achonu made her remarks in a statement that the Imo State LP Chairman, Calistus Ihejiagwa, signed.
Ajaero was taken by the police to Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Wednesday, and then released, according to prior reports from furucinovel.
In response, Achonu declared, “The 1999 Constitution as amended guarantees every citizen’s fundamental human rights of movement, association, and expression. It is the supreme law of the land and supersedes all other laws and pronouncements.” Nigeria is a democracy.

“We are currently seeing flagrant abuses of the Constitution concerning those unalienable fundamental human rights in Imo State under Hope Uzodinma.
We think that President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police are aware of the corruption occurring in Imo State and have chosen to distance themselves from Hope Uzodinma and his obedient security personnel, who are willing to join him in his army of brigandage and people-suppression.
We demand once more that President Bola Tinubu investigate the situation in Imo. He needs to immediately take notice of what is going on in the state and order a swift replacement of guards in the security structure to make sure that one emperor does not subvert the will of the people.

We also openly declare that this next election has to be unlike any other. Imolites are resolved to resist being subjugated by election tampering once more. Without fear of intimidation, they must cast their votes in large numbers, and the results must be verified.
“Let Uzodinma compete fairly against his rivals if he believes he has achieved more than just spreading misinformation, rather than scheming to weaken opposition and undermine the government.
We implore the human rights community, civil society organizations, election observers, and the international community to take notice.
We further beg the Nigerian government to prevent Governor Uzodinma from allowing his desperate bid for reelection to ignite the state even more than the bloodshed it has already seen under his directionless rule, in order to ensure that the November 11 governorship election and the handover to a new administration take place peacefully.
