Recall that Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, ended its participation in the ASUU’s ongoing strike on Monday.

Ralph Njokuobi, the university’s public relations officer, confirmed the news and gave staff and students the go-ahead to start courses again on Tuesday.

The management of Imo State University has announced its determination to open the university for academic activities in contempt of the ongoing national strike by ASUU, the chairperson of ASUU-IMSU, Odinakachukwu Ejiogu, said in response to the development.

“ASUU-IMSU desires to state that she continues to support the national body in the fight for our collective well-being and the continuation of free public higher education in Nigeria and has not withdrawn from the strike. Not even when IMSU is dealing with a number of unresolved welfare issues.

“We have called an urgent executive committee meeting for September 20, 2022, to assess the overall situation and update the pertinent parties.

“Furthermore, on September 22, 2022 at noon, an emergency congress has been planned to take place in the ETF 2 building outside the Access Bank ATM.

All ASUU-IMSU members should be aware that attending senate sessions while on strike is the same as breaching the strike, and those who do so should face consequences.
