Tuesday in Jos, a committee appointed by the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, reported that false job letters had been issued in the state’s civil service before his administration took office.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the 15-member committee was established on July 26 to examine the most recent recruitment drive held by the previous administration.

As he delivered the committee’s report to the governor, Dr. Ishaya Agaldo, the chairman, stated that “some fake employment letters were issued to some employees.”
He said that some of the inconsistencies were picked up by the state’s Civil Service Commission, which also found that some reporting and acceptance dates were earlier than the employment dates in some cases.
According to Agaldo, the committee also discovered irregularities with the hiring of individuals for specific positions without the necessary qualifications.

He said that some people with third-class degrees were hired to teach in tertiary institutions.
He emphasized that the Civil Service Commission was not involved in the exercise and that most Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), where some employees worked beyond their permitted employment limits, did not follow due process.

“Because the employment process was rushed, there were several inconsistencies in the documents.
The distribution among the 17 Local Government Areas was uneven, according to Agaldo.

The committee suggested that the procedure be reviewed to make sure that due process was followed, with the exception of MDAs that adhered to civil service standards.
Additionally, it suggested that ad-hoc personnel, who are frequently mistreated, be discouraged from working there and given preference during civil service recruitment drives.
The committee also suggested that hiring into the state’s service be done on a regular basis while upholding equity and justice and adhering to predetermined parameters.
In order to improve the performance of the civil service, the committee also suggested reforms.
To ensure information access and efficient operations, it advised MDAs to digitalize their information systems.
In response, Mutfwang complimented the committee for its commitment and high caliber work despite having received threats from people and interest groups about the issue.
The governor, who was represented by Mr. Samuel Jatau, Secretary to the State Government, stated that affected MDAs would be examined and a committee would be established to prepare a White Paper in accordance with the recommendations of the 15-member committee.
