Due to various trash disposal violations, the Lagos State government closed the Ajah market in Etti-Osa and the Ogba City Mall in Ikeja.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Lagos Government Special Environmental Corps (KAI), and the State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses (LASTMA) collaborated to execute the operation.

This was said in a statement released on Sunday in Lagos by Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, Director of Public Affairs of LAWMA.

According to Kadiri, the enforcement team also cleaned the structures of shanties and unlicensed vendors near the Ajah Jubilee Bridge and BRT line.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Mr. Tokunbo Wahab commented on the development, stating that the action was an extension of the administration’s campaign against filth and careless trash disposal by marketplaces and commercial establishments around the state.

“This administration will not tolerate filth or careless garbage disposal by retailers or commercial establishments, thus we are intensifying our efforts in this regard.

“We have consistently cautioned entrepreneurs to anticipate consequences if they neglect to take necessary measures to preserve the environment,” Wahab stated.

Wahab declared that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu would not give up on the noble goal of pursuing the paramount welfare of the people.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, stated that the zero tolerance campaign was ongoing and that businesses and marketplaces should take action to guarantee a sanitary and clean environment.

“We are urging all market operators and business owners to avoid filth and implement steps to ensure responsible garbage disposal in their locations of operation for the umpteenth time,” he declared.
