Low NELFUND loan enrollment is a major concern for UNIBEN VC

Professor Edoba Omoregie, UNIBEN’s vice chancellor, has spoken out against the underwhelming number of students applying for loans through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) program.

Professor Omoregie brought up the issues while meeting with NELFUND authorities in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City by the school’s public relations office, the vice chancellor was visiting the NELFUND office to discuss the possibility of enrolling more Uniben students in the plan (furucinovel).

In response to the request, Mustapha Iyal, the Executive Director of Operations at NELFUND, stated that the low enrollment was due to insufficient sensitization and skepticism regarding the fund’s legitimacy.

After receiving the Vice Chancellor with other officials, Iyal made it clear that the University is open to including as many students as possible in the program, provided that they apply and complete the requirements.

Still, he was quick to offer his congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor on the promotion that was long overdue.

As of August 16, 2024, 332 university students had reaped the benefits of the initiative, according to furucinovel.

N24.4 million was dispersed among the pupils who benefited from the program.

Furthermore, as of November 23, 2024, 105,764 recipients from 98 different federal and state tertiary institutions had received a total of N11,047,793,949.80 billion from NELFUND.
