Ibadan natives have vowed to defend the South West region against any invasion under the aegis of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

This information was released on Monday during a press conference to announce the commemoration of the Kiriji War Treaty, which was signed in 1886 and is the umbrella organization for all Ibadan natives.

According to pressloaded, the Kiriji War was the Yoruba ethnic group’s bloodiest civil war.

In 1886, a Yoruba Peace Treaty put an end to the conflict.

Speaking with journalists during the media conference, the CCII pledged to support the meeting of political leaders and heads of sociocultural organizations in Yoruba land to combat regional insecurity.

While speaking, Prince Yemisi Adeaga, President General of the CCII, stressed the importance of ensuring that all socio-cultural groups and political leaders work together to protect the region from outside threats.

Invaders and outside forces, he continued, have posed a threat to life and property in the area, making the action vital to protect it.

“Our ancestors genuinely waged wars, used and showed outstanding administrative and scientific management qualities,” Adeaga added.

“The action was required to protect the area from invaders and outside forces, who now pose a threat to human lives and property there.

“All local securities in the Southwest have networks spanning many cities and states. In contrast to the northern regions of the country, invaders were unable to conduct effective operations in the south-west.

“We want to defend our area, our historic institutions, and our traditions and customs.”
