Teachers have been given the assurance that legislation to enhance education in the state will be developed by lawmakers by Niger State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji.
This was said by Sarkindaji during his message of goodwill at the Minna commemoration of World Teachers Day in 2023, which had as its theme: “The Teachers We Need For Education We Want: The Global Imperative To Reverse Teacher Shortage.”

He said that the bill will focus on issues that have an impact on teachers’ welfare and added that the myth that instructors will receive rewards in heaven has had a significant negative impact on educational standards.
He claimed that the only way to raise the level of education in the nation was to reward teachers with their reward on earth rather than just paying lip respect to their welfare. The wellbeing of Teachers at our various levels of education must be a top priority for all levels of government. World Teachers Day should be observed if there is a holiday other than Independence Day.
Remember that the Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) had previously warned of a major flight of skilled teachers from the state, purportedly as a result of inadequate pay, inadequate welfare and educational resources, and deteriorating infrastructure.

Speaking, Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed, state chairman of the NUT, revealed that only 8% and 2% of the state’s professional and non-professional teachers have salaries in place, ten years after the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) approved the national teachers salary structure.
In accordance with organized labor, he said, the N30,000 minimum salary for secondary school teachers has not been fully and adequately implemented.
