Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has vowed to deal harshly with or fine any filling station found not dispensing its allocation or selling above the state’s statutory approved pump price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

Bello issued the threat in a statement issued in Minna, the state capital, by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane.

The governor lamented the problems being faced by the people of the state as a result of artificial scarcity and arbitrary pricing of PMS by product marketers, emphasizing that the situation demanded that the government take drastic action.

“The Government established the committee in response to the state’s continuous fuel scarcity as a result of unfair pricing and product hoarding,” the statement stated.

It also noted that the committee is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to the agreed allotment to filling stations in the state as well as retail prices for PMS.

Members of the committee were recruited from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), security agencies, and government officials, according to Matane.
