Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the country director of the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), has urged Nigerians to underline their shared obligation to promote a culture of peace for the advancement of their nation.
Speaking on this year’s International Day of Nonviolence, Hayab urged Nigerians to explore the philosophy’s transforming power as the globe observes this day in honor of Mahatma Gandhi, the founder of nonviolence.

He asserts that “nonviolence is not a passive attitude; it is an active force that can mend fractures, heal wounds, and build societies with real coherence. The enduring advice of Mahatma Gandhi is to “be the change you wish to see in the world.”
He pointed out that the Global Peace Foundation’s mission statement is “One Family Under God,” emphasizing that it is a call to unity that crosses religious, ethnic, and national boundaries to recognize our common humanity and lay the groundwork for long-lasting peace.
“The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria has been actively intervening in areas that have experienced conflict in order to promote peace and social cohesion,” he continued. We also work with other groups in the states of Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

“It is a powerful force that, when embraced, creates a ripple effect, positively influencing individuals, communities, and entire nations,” he emphasized.
In order to actively contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious world—one in which the idea of One Family Under God becomes a lived reality—he urged Nigerians to take the spirit of nonviolence with them.
