Nnamdi Kanu is disappointed that the Appeal Court did not consider the IPOB’s lawsuit challenging the proscription

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a statement in response to the inability of the Appel Court to hear his appeal against the classification of the group as a terrorist organization.

Kanu bemoaned the fact that the Appeal Court was unable to hear the suit, as he believed this to be further evidence of the unfairness of the proscription.

IPOB was declared illegal by the government that was led by former President Muhammadu Buhari as a result of the group’s advocacy for Biafra.

However, the group had already contested the prohibition of its activities in court.

The IPOB’s appeal was scheduled to be heard on October 16 by the Abuja Court of Appeal back in March.

Kanu, on the other hand, expressed his disappointment that the court would not consider the IPOB’s suit challenging the proscription.

After their regularly scheduled meeting at the Department of State Services (DSS), the leader of IPOB made this information public through the medium of his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor.

When Ejimakor reviewed the Registry on Friday, they found that the case that had been submitted in 2018 and was given the identifier CA/A/214/2018 was still listed for hearing on the day that had been planned.

However, he expressed his displeasure at the fact that when they arrived at the court, the matter had been deleted from the Registry without anyone informing them of this change.

In a conversation with furucinovel, Ejimakor revealed the following information about the issue: “The matter was slated for hearing last on March 7 but was deferred the same day without a hearing because of “election petitions.” The following day was today, and when we checked the Registry on Friday, it had already been added to the list of potential causes.

“But today, when we arrived in Court, we were astonished to see that it was no longer on the cause list for today, and the reason was again listed as “election petitions.”

“I just got out of visiting with Nnamdi Kanu, and he wanted me to publicly protest the deferral (earlier today) of the appeal filed by IPOB against its proscription since 2018. He has been in detention since 2018.

The fact that this appeal will not be heard is an indirect confirmation of the unfairness of the proscription.

“We are going to submit a letter tomorrow at first light in the morning to firmly request a new date that is no later than 10 days from tomorrow,”
