Nnamdi Kanu was wrongfully imprisoned according to an IPOB lawyer

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is represented by Aloy Ejimakor, who claims that the state falsely imprisoned the Biafra agitator.

Ejimakor made the statement while reiterating that Kanu was not facing any legal charges.

He pointed out that Kanu’s fate is not only dependent on the Supreme Court’s decision on the appeal.

Ejimakor maintained that Kanu’s release was not a gesture of mercy in a statement he signed.

The following is a portion of the statement: “To be sure, Nnamdi Kanu’s fate does not rest with this appeal alone because the appeal is merely one of the numerous cases that were sparked – locally and internationally – by the extraordinary rendition, and all the cases are independent, of equal standing, and intended to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

“Therefore, the narrative that Nnamdi Kanu’s release is solely in the hands of the Supreme Court is fundamentally false given the various times when two of these numerous cases, in particular, the one initiated at the Federal High Court and the one initiated at the United Nations (both of which have concurrent jurisdiction over the rendition), were decided in favor of Nnamdi Kanu. Additionally, it is ill-intentioned, prejudiced, and gravely detrimental to Nnamdi Kanu’s legal interests, especially given that it gives the authorities an excuse and convenient political cover to continue holding Nnamdi Kanu illegally.

“Finally, it must be stressed that Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest is actually an imprisonment without conviction because it is clear that he is not currently the subject of a trial and does not have any accusations pending against him. He is a victim of state-caused false imprisonment, to put it simply. A harsh and difficult confinement that is considerably more horrifying when the setting is a nasty DSS cell, which is similar to a damp police cell or even worse in certain ways.
