On Wednesday, personnel from the Edo State Command broke into the Bureau de Change offices in Benin City and took many operators into custody.

According to the furucinovel, the agents broke into the Bureau de Change offices early in the morning at Erie Street and Sokponba Road, where they took numerous operators into custody.

Speaking under anonymity, one of the operators claimed they were detained without being informed of their offenses.

If every operator had been available when the security personnel attacked the scene, he claimed, more operators would have been taken into custody.

He continued, saying that a few weeks prior, representatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, had visited the region without making any arrests and that the police activity was likely intended to scare them out of business.

He claims that when Edo State Command agents showed up to our stores this morning and began making some arrests, we were taken aback.

They kept our transgressions a secret from us. When the EFCC last visited, no one was taken into custody. However, we are unsure if the police will order us to close down our companies.

In a phone conversation, the command’s public relations officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, verified the occurrence and stated that it followed federal government guidelines.
