The Ogun State government has announced that it will use a “catch-them-young” strategy to identify talent in secondary schools as it gets ready to host the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Wasiu Isiaka, the Commissioner for Sports Development, made this statement while hosting the Grand Union of Private Schools Associations (GUPSA) in the Ministry’s conference room in Abeokuta.

Isiaka pointed out that one of the numerous ways that talent is found to represent the state in regional, national, and international contests is through the yearly Inter-House Sports held by schools.
The commissioner declared that the government would create the necessary conditions for sports to flourish in Ogun. He also mentioned that plans are in place to revive a number of secondary school and university competitions, including the Principal’s Cup, Governor’s Cup, and Gateway Tertiary Institution Games (GATIG).
Isiaka pointed out that the majority of Nigerian states lack the caliber of athletic facilities found in Ogun.

In addition to helping to bring out the best in these young talents, he invited the public to work with his Ministry to provide suggestions for initiatives that would advance sports in the state.
He revealed that whilst Ogun aims to help schoolchildren reach their full potential, their academic careers would also be strictly guarded.
“Ogun State has at least one stadium in each senatorial zone. In order to make the most of these facilities, we are willing to collaborate with anyone who can improve society and advance our state, particularly with regards to enhancing the quality of life for our children. Isiaka declared, “We are prepared to collaborate with you and provide those facilities.”
