Mr. Ola Olukoyede has been given the position of Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, also known as the EFCC, by President Bola Tinubu.

A statement released on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, contained the news of the appointment.

The previous Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, had been suspended prior to Olukoyede’s appointment, which followed his resignation.

Tinubu also gave his approval to the nomination of Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda to the position of Secretary of the anti-graft agency for an initial period of five years, with the possibility of extending that term contingent on Senate confirmation.

“By the powers vested in President Bola Tinubu as established in section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment Act, 2004, that “the Chairman and members of the Commission, other than ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President,” President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede to serve as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a renewable term of four years in the first instance. “Mr. Ola Olukoyede is a specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence, with over twenty-two (22) years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant,” As a result of his prior positions as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016-2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018-2023), he has a wealth of knowledge in the workings of the EFCC. As a result, he is eligible to be appointed as Chairman of the EFCC because he satisfies the legislative condition.

“Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda is a public administrator who has vast experience in the management of public finances. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from the same university. He started out his professional life as a professor at the Federal Polytechnic in Mubi. After that, he entered the banking industry and had several successful spells, notably at the now-defunct Allied Bank and the Standard Trust Bank, according to the statement.

As a result, President Tinubu has given the new leadership of the Commission the responsibility of demonstrating why they deserve the confidence that has been placed in them.
