Olodo Bridge closure by Oyo government

The Olodo bridge, which is situated along the Ibadan-Iwo Road, has been closed by the Oyo State government.

The flood that devastated certain areas of Ibadan on Monday caused the bridge to be washed away.

Assuring habitants of the flooded areas of prompt assistance, alternate routes, and other palliative measures to ease their mobility, the state government disclosed it decided to close the bridge on Monday.

It disclosed this information following a site assessment visit by an inspection team from the Ministries of Works, Environment, Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

In Ibadan, the team also examined the roads at Olodo Garage, Ido, and Akinyele.

Speaking on behalf of the group was Mrs. Modupe Adeleye, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, who expressed sympathy to the flood victims and assured them that the government was aware of their predicament.

“What we are seeing here this morning is terrible and honestly quite depressing. The Ministries of Environment, Public Works, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (IUFMP) joined together to form this team so that we could come here and observe things for ourselves.

The administration will temporarily implement palliatives to soothe the public’s anxieties. Due to the fact that Olodo Bridge needed to be closed for the time being in order to prevent the loss of lives and property, the team set out to find alternate ways.

The best path we’ve found so far is roughly five (5) kilometers long. It is now suggested that we close down and hunt for alternative routes for individuals to do their business. From Wofun Junction through Kute to Olodo Bank, it extends. That will be the alternate path, where the government will temporarily use a band-aid solution.
