Mr Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has directed that all commission employees immediately register their assets in accordance with civil service norms and procedures.

According to the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the chairman issued the directive on Tuesday at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters in Abuja while addressing the commission’s senior officials.

He stated that all employees below Level 17 must register their assets, which will be scrutinized, and that combatting corruption requires those at the forefront to be ethical.

“From Level 17 down, we’re all going to declare our assets,” he stated. I did mine, so there’s no reason why anyone else shouldn’t. The Commission Secretary did as well. You may have done it before, but there is a need for all of us to do it again. We will declare our assets and conduct an investigation.

“We must live above board by setting a good example.” Our hands must be clean as anti-corruption activists, so we must reveal our holdings.”

He also challenged the commission’s staff with being professional, thorough in their engagements, honest, and non-partisan, warning that those who jeopardize their work and position would face serious penalties.

While directing his staff to follow the rule of law, Olukoyede stated, “The EFCC is a creation of the law.” We must carry out our duties in accordance with the law. This is customary international procedure, and we will make it our established norm.”
