A similar indefinite strike has been initiated by the Taraba State University chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

The move follows a few days of academic staff members slashing learning activities in response to what they saw as the state government’s inaction on their requests.

According to a news release from SSANU’s top brass, the union’s members took action because they felt ignored by the state government and the university administration.

Unpaid wages, withheld allowances, and the lack of a pension plan for employees were among the many issues brought up by the union in the statement signed by Bitrus Joseph Ajibauka.

With effect from today, Wednesday, the 11th of December, 2024, a complete and utter strike action has been initiated by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Taraba State University branch, as said in the announcement.

The statement went on to say that the university’s operations had been hampered since the Governing Council was dissolved in June 2023.

In addition, SSANU is unhappy that the 2009 minimum salary of N18,000 is still in effect, despite the fact that newer minimum wage regulations, like as the 2019 wage of N30,000 and the recently authorized N70,000 wage, have not been put into effect.

The N35,000 monthly wage award that President Bola Tinubu approved has not yet been distributed to our members. The statement went on to say that non-teaching employees’ earned administrative allowances from 2009–2013 are still unpaid.

Additionally, the union demanded the implementation of standards authorized in 2020 and opposed the use of antiquated evaluation methods for employee promotions.

No end in sight to the university’s academic and administrative disruptions caused by the strike
