Police in Kano are prepared for a nonviolent protest – CP

In anticipation of the planned demonstration by organized labor union members in the state on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Kano State Police Command reports that it has put its officers on high alert.

In a briefing to reporters in Kano, the state’s commissioner of police, Mr. Hussaini Gumel, emphasized that proactive security measures had already been put in place to guarantee peaceful and orderly protest in every region of the state.

He claimed that the deployment was compliant with current regulations and recognized the right to peaceful protest.

According to Gumel, divisional police officers, area commanders, and tactical commanders in each of the state’s forty-four local government districts had received an operational order for the soldiers.

He clarified that in order to guarantee the peaceful protestors’ movements, the command was collaborating with other state security authorities.

“Enough armed officers have been deployed to ensure security at all hotspots, including as vehicle parks, banks, political party offices, and commercial and recreational spaces, both before and after the protest.

The commissioner declared, “I am providing every law-abiding citizen of the state with the utmost assurance that they can carry out their regular activities without fear for their lives or property.”
