The Kwara State Government has issued a warning to senior secondary school principals throughout the state against unlawful charges for prospective pupils registering for the National Examination Council (NECO) in preparation for the 2024 tests.
Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, issued the caution during a ceremony to kick off the registration process for the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The commissioner said that the government would not accept any more fees from any principal other than the amount that the ministry had authorized for NECO.
Kawu warned the principals to refrain from any actions that might damage the government’s reputation, warning them that those who did so would be subject to the full force of the law.
She emphasized that the current government had zero tolerance for examination malpractices and cautioned them against encouraging and supporting such behavior.

In order to protect our children and the State, I want to underline how crucial it is to uphold the greatest standards of integrity throughout exams.
The commissioner declared, “We implore everyone present and others to refrain from any form of involvement in exam malpractices.”
In order to raise the state’s educational standards, Kawu recognized the principals’ tireless efforts in maintaining positive working connections with the state ministry of education.

Speaking as well was Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission. He was joined in conversation by Alhaji Amuda Mohammed Aliyu, the Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply for the Commission. Alhaji Abubakar stated that the current administration has done a good job of enhancing the welfare of teachers and urged them to return the governor’s kind gesture.
Before, during, and after the exam, principals were advised by Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, to avoid any actions that would damage their reputation.
The breakdown of the approved registration costs for the SSCE (NECO) 2024 was previously provided by Mrs. Adewuyi Victoria Funmilayo, Director of Curriculum and Assessment at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.
She clarified that the overall cost of NECO per candidate is N28,500.00. The NECO fee is N22,250:00; E®istration charges are N1,250:00; administrative charges are N2,000; the four figure table is N500:00; and the waterproof certificate and jacket/folder are N500 and N2500, respectively.
