Sit-at-home: Mbah assures people that security agencies are on high alert

In order to prevent security breaches and protect their lives and property, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has reassured residents and visitors conducting business in the state that they are secure. He has emphasized that his administration has already put security agencies on the highest degree of alert.

The Governor stated the administration was doing all possible to coordinate with other neighboring states in order to drive criminals out of all of their hiding places. He further urged them to erase all memory of sit-at-home in the state.

In a meeting with the Presidents-General (PGs) of all the state’s autonomous communities on Thursday in Enugu, Governor Mbah provided these promises, even as they vowed to back his efforts to end the illegitimate sit-at-home order enforced by hoodlums and make the state more appealing to investors.

He lamented the terrible effects of the illegal sit-at-home, such as the destitution of residents and the intimidation of potential investors, and vowed that his administration will mercilessly deal with any criminal elements undermining the calm of the state.

He asserted that there is a link between individuals who stay home and poverty, and he issued a warning that security personnel would continue to target hooligans who victimize the public for an improper and unjustifiable reason.

He questioned why those who were harming innocent people while sitting in the luxury of their homes elsewhere in the world would be doing so in an organized effort to destabilize the region, claiming that only people who were in delusion would cover up their crimes by claiming to be fighting for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

Mbah reaffirmed his commitment to using his programs and policies to make the state appealing to private investors, generate jobs, educate the youth about digital transformation, and reclaim the glory the state formerly enjoyed.

“It’s time to assume control over our future. We’re utilizing the sit-at-home phenomenon to marginalize ourselves, therefore it’s time to say “enough is enough” to this threat.

“How does the Federal Government or Abuja’s economic plans suffer from this illegal sit-at-home by criminals? Don’t let individuals trick you into thinking they are supporting your cause.

They are criminals who have been paid to undermine our nation, our state, and our people. They must be resisted, and we must declare victory. We need to forget everything about staying in and return to our tradition of enterprise, innovation, and trade.

“We did tell you that by doubling the gross domestic product, we intend to transition the state’s economy from one based on the public to one based on the private sector. This enormous and ambitious agenda can only be accomplished in an environment of safety and harmony.

“Therefore, I urge you to mobilize your neighborhoods and spread the word to them that it is never acceptable to stay in on a Monday or any other day.

“By overcoming fear and refusing to let anyone make us inferior without our agreement, we can all work together to put an end to sit-at-home.

The governor said, “With peace and security, we can develop enough wealth, create employment, involve our people meaningfully, and fulfill our obligations to the people.

Sir Eze Solomon, one of the PGs who addressed the governor on behalf of the association of town unions in the Enugu West Senatorial Zone, responded to the governor by praising him for his proactive approach to reducing insecurity and ensuring that citizens were protected from hoodlums.

However, he bemoaned the lack of police presence in rural areas and urged the state to send out more security forces to boost public confidence.

Dr. Barth Nwankwo, for his part, expressed appreciation to Mbah for the plans and policies his administration had implemented after only a few days in office and reaffirmed their readiness to work together with the state government and local governments to flush out marauders in their areas.

Hon. Isaac Onyia, Hon. Ejike Iloh, Hon. Ogbodo Arinze, Chief Bony Edeh, and Barr. Paully Eze all urged the governor to launch an aggressive sensitization program, especially in rural areas, to inform the populace that it was no longer acceptable to stay at home and do nothing.

The PGs also urged the governor to restructure, equip, train, and reinforce neighborhood watch, forest guard, and vigilante group-based community policing.
