The Commissioner of Abia has urged the local population to reject reports of missing genitals

Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture for the state of Abia, has pledged that the state will always work together with the various security agencies to ensure that its inhabitants’ lives and belongings are protected to an adequate degree.

This was said by Kanu in his office in Umuahia as he was receiving the Umuahia Police Commissioner, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and his staff who were paying him a courtesy visit.

The Information Commissioner advised the people of Abia to overlook the mounting complaints regarding stolen or missing genitals. He also guaranteed the commitment of his ministry to provide the necessary support and helpful information to the police.

He urged the people not to take matters into their own hands and instead to report any such cases of missing genitals to any of the surrounding police stations so that investigations can be conducted.

In his statement, Onwuemelie emphasized the necessity of a relationship between the police and the Abia State Ministry of Information in order to defend the interests of the people. He stated that information is strategic to governance, and he referred to it as such.

According to him, the collaboration became necessary in order to make sure that proper information is being spread throughout the state.

He stated it was a dangerous situation while expressing dismay at the prevalence of fake news in the country, including tales on people’s missing genitals, and he added that the situation was troubling.

He also defined as barbaric the act of civilized people taking the law into their own hands, pointing out that most people use that to unjustly visit terror or victimize their perceived opponents. He said that this behavior was barbaric since it took the law into their own hands.

Also addressing was Hyacinth Okoli, the acting Director-General of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA), who expressed concern regarding the prevalence of fake news in the community but highlighted the fact that a relationship between government information organizations and security agencies would aid in providing proper protection.
