According to Mr. Abdulatef Bello, Director of the Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), the seizures were carried out as a continuation of measures to rid the city of unauthorized operators of commercial vehicles.

According to him, this is being done in order to increase the safety of both people and their property in Abuja.

Bello added that the vehicles were towed because of violations including improper parking, operating vehicles that were more rickety than they should have been, improper display of license plates, and vehicles that were suspected of belonging to one-time operators.

He stated that the FCT Administration will not stop working to rid the city of any and all types of nuisances and that they would continue their efforts in this vein.

He went on to say that the owners of the vehicles that had been impounded will be brought before the FCT Mobile Court, which would be sitting on the premises of the DRTS.

According to the director, three of the car owners who are suspected of being one-chance operators will be turned over to the police so that they can be prosecuted.

He believed that the inefficiency of the city’s public transit system was to blame for the large number of people who lost their lives while operating one-chance businesses.

The Secretary of the Command and Control Unit of the FCTA, Mr. Peter Olumuji, made his statement while displaying a sharp instrument that had been confiscated from one of the suspected one-chance operators. He stated that the administration was trying hard to curtail the scourge.

In the sake of everyone’s safety, Olumuji recommended drivers and passengers to utilize only cabs with painted exteriors, and he added that there were continuous attempts to address the city’s transportation shortage.

Also addressing, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control at the FCTA, pointed the finger of blame at a lack of discipline for the high prevalence of criminal activity in the FCT.

Galadima stated that the FCTA would continue to enlighten road users on the need to be extra vigilant when utilizing taxis in order to avoid becoming victims of one-chance operators. Galadima said this would be done in order for the FCTA to maintain its mission.

He cautioned locals to avoid taking cabs that were either unpainted or lacked number plates, in particular. (NAN)
