Denis Zakaria, a recent addition to Chelsea, has admitted that Thomas Tuchel, the team’s former manager, was a factor in his decision to sign with the Blues.

On deadline day this summer, Zakaria, 25, also revealed that he was on the verge of joining Liverpool rather than Chelsea.

The loan agreement between Chelsea and Juventus for the Swiss midfielder seemed to come out of nowhere, given that he had only joined the Serie A powerhouse in January.

According to Zakaria, as stated by Blick, “I heard that via my agency, but in the end, it was Chelsea.”

“Everything happened in an instant. Up until six hours before the transfer window closed, I was unaware that a move to Chelsea was feasible.

“I believe that England will make me happy than Turin. It’s difficult to pinpoint Juventus’ problems.

“Perhaps the style of football wasn’t mine,” he continued. The team did not have much room and was much behind schedule. As a player, I require a lot of room for my runs. I might be more comfortable in England.

“Thomas Tuchel is a fantastic coach, and he was one of the reasons I chose Chelsea.

But that’s football, and right now we haven’t spent much time with him. Everything moves quickly.

“With the new coach [Graham Potter], about whom I have heard a lot of positive things, I might have a second shot. For my position, I’ll put in a lot of effort.
