According to the Senate, the frequent abductions of students and members of the youth corps by bandits in several regions of the nation have paralyzed the academic and university communities.
The Red Chamber has decided to call a meeting of all security chiefs in response to the growing number of university students being kidnapped around the nation.

The resolution followed a motion made in plenary by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua (APC Katsina Central), who called attention to the early-morning Wednesday abduction of five female students from the Federal University in Dutsinma, FUDMA, Katsina.
Twelve days before to the incident, 24 students were kidnapped by bandits who broke into three dorms at the Federal University in Gusau, Zamfara State. Three days later, during the security agency-led rescue effort, sixteen of them were successfully released.
On Monday, August 21, 2023, eight corps members who were en route to camp in Zamfara State were also abducted by suspect terrorists.

Senator Yar’Adua claimed that the university and academic communities are in a panicked state as a result of these kidnapping episodes.
In key towns and settlements in the North West geopolitical zone, kidnappings for ransom have virtually become a daily and weekly occurrence, the congressman expressed worry.
Concerned about the rising number of student abductions, the Senate decided to set a date for the security chiefs to brief the lawmakers on the problem of student abductions and attempts to stop it.

Additionally, it asked Nigeria’s various security organizations to take more initiative and see to it that all of the abducted students are immediately released.
The military and other security services were requested by the Red Chamber to launch a special operation to chase away the bandits in the Northwest region.
It instructed the Nigeria Police to make sure that the school protection squad clearly proves its dedication to safeguarding schoolchildren and to create a secure setting where pupils and instructors can engage in teaching and learning without worrying about being attacked or abducted.
