On Wednesday, he informed Nigerians of the situation with the backlog in passport applications during a news conference in Abuja.

“No one will ever again have to wait two weeks to get a passport. He promised that if you applied and were detained, you would receive your passport in two weeks and that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) had finished processing all 204,332 pending passport applications.
On September 7, the minister gave the NIS a two-week deadline to finish processing all pending passport applications.
