The Yobe State Government claims to have taken action to prevent middlemen and merchants in the state from stockpiling wheat and other necessities.
This is in an effort to stop the practice’s negative effects on food shortages and the high price of wheat and other food goods.

This was revealed by Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture Abdullahi Bego as he was presenting a five-point statement to reporters following an urgent meeting called by Governor Mala Buni to discuss the average cost of living in the state and the nation.
He claimed that the state’s government has taken note of the habit of stockpiling grains and other necessities in order to create a false sense of scarcity, which is concerning.
“The State Government has worked with security agencies to discourage practices in order to stem the tide of food scarcity and high cost of grains and other food items that are caused by people purchasing those grains in bulk from Yobe’s markets and taking them outside our nation’s borders,” Bego stated.

In order to prevent speculators and hoarders from taking advantage of Yobe’s markets to create artificial scarcity and worsen the nation’s food poverty, he claims that the purchase and shipment of significant quantities of grains outside the state will be rigorously regulated.
He promised, “The Yobe State Government will implement significant initiatives very soon to mitigate the effects of the growing cost of food and other necessities for people throughout the state.”
A large gathering of interested parties will be called right away in each local government area to further discuss the state of food security in each of the 17 local government councils and to come up with practical solutions to the problems, the State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information, and Culture revealed.

“People throughout the state are urged by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni to keep praying and pleading for Almighty Allah’s intervention on the current challenges facing the nation,” he stated.
