Stefano Pioli, manager of AC Milan, claimed that Empoli will be a more difficult challenge than Chelsea.
The Champions League matchup between Pioli’s team and the Premier League team will take place in October.
The three-year-old appointment of the former Inter Milan and Fiorentina manager resulted in last season’s Serie A championship.
Following their victory over Dinamo Zagreb earlier this month, which gave them a clear lead in Group E, Milan will enter their encounter against Chelsea hoping to build on that success.
Chelsea, on the other hand, drew at home against RB Salzburg and lost to Dinamo Zagreb.
Four days before their visit to Stamford Bridge, Milan, who is now fifth in Serie A, take on Empoli.
According to Pioli, there isn’t much of a difference between performing well in Europe and Italy. A faster pace is necessary for the Champions League, but it’s not impossible.
“I realize there are expectations surrounding the Chelsea games, but I still believe Empoli will pose the greatest challenge for us.
“Only two days prior to that match, I’ll have welcomed the players back from international service.
“I am confident that if we perform at our typical levels, we can definitely get results against Chelsea.”
