Kidnappers using poor road conditions — Dave Umahi

According to Minister of Works Dave Umahi, kidnappers are aided in their operations by poor roads around the nation.

This was said by Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi State, when he was testifying before the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations about his ministry’s budget.

The N2.17 trillion supplemental budget was given to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, as reported by furucinovel.

As the minister attempted to persuade the parliamentarians to give the works ministry additional funding, he claimed that poor roads were a factor in the nation’s increased insecurity.

“Roads are crucial to our revolution, security, and national reconstruction. Roads have the power to reset security; most kidnappings that occur across the nation take place in areas where the roads have failed. Let me add that we cannot advance our agricultural revolution without highways. This is a crucial matter. This nation’s citizens require the construction of highways.

Our states’ economies are currently in danger as most interstate travel is exceedingly challenging. It took me 14 hours to drive from Abuja to Benin; this was not because the Ministry of Works couldn’t, but rather because of inadequate financing. Some roads have been in use for 17 or perhaps 20 years, the man claimed.

Following his presentation, the MPs permitted Umahi to bow and depart.
